Just a few things that I’ve been working on in the old sketchbook the last few days.

Just a few things that I’ve been working on in the old sketchbook the last few days.

The early 80’s were a grand and glorious time to be a teen-sex comedy enthusiast. The films were filled with an abundance of low-brow humor, nudity and raunchy language. Movies such as Porky’s and Spring Break were just what the doctor ordered if you were a horny adolescent. The Asylum continues to contribute to this rich genre with yet another raucous comedy written by the talented Naomi Selfman, Barely Legal.
Selfman, who has written two previous comedies for The Asylum (18-Year Old Virgin and #1 Cheerleader Camp) as well as giant monster fare such as Mega Shark vs Crocosaurus and Mega Python vs Gatoroid, delivers the tasty tale of three nubile babes looking to lose their virginity on their 18th Birthday. There’s plenty of raunchy laughs as well as skin on display. Jeneta St. Clair, Lisa Younger and Melissa Johnson are all quite fetching and have a great sense of comedic timing for actresses as young as they are.
The Asylum’s Barely Legal, not to be confused with the National Lampoon film of the same name, is quite funny and undeniably sexy, far surpassing previous efforts such as Sex Pot. But it lacks one thing that more than likely you could care less about…believability. You mean to tell me that these three smoking hot 18-years are not only still virgins but are also having a difficult time losing their virginity? That’s about as believable as William Hung at a Rock Star Covention. Alright, alright…I’m willing to suspend my disbelief for the sake of the story. You should too. Check it out today and buy it here from The Asylum’s website. C’mon, quit being such a cheap bastard!
Here’s a commissioned piece I recently did for Darren Stevens. Yes, the real Darren Stevens…and don’t you forget it!

More junk from the Sketchbook…ghouls and goils!! Two-page spread as it looks in my sketchbook and close up details just below it. Even managed to work in Belial from Basket Case!

As a young man who was admittedly an avid viewer of teen sex comedies in the 1980’s, I can’t think of a better purchase than the Too Cool For School collection from Mill Creek Entertainment. I will fully admit that back in those formative years I did not watch these films for much more than the possiblity of maybe viewing some skin. Hell, when you’re sixteen years old not much else really mattered in a movie-viewing experience.
You get twelve movies in this collection, mostly from Crown International, about guys trying to score with girls who have very big hair and very few clothes set to delightfully vapid pop/new wave musical soundtracks. Awesome, dude…totally awesome! I was frankly quite surprised at how many of these films I had actully seen on vhs back in my adolescence and how well many of them stood up…well, that might be a bit of an overstatement! Ha ha! Nonethless, I would take a raucus 1984 comedy like JOCKS over the majority of today’s theatrical comedies any day. I’d bet you my Lydia Cornell “Too Close For Comfort” poster that it would make me laugh harder every time as well.
The Too Cool For School collection is the ultimate nostalgia experience for any fan of eighties’ teen sex comedies. Included in this set are: The Beach Girls, Cavegirl, Coach, Hunk, Jocks, Malibu Beach, My Chauffeur, My Tutor, The Pom Pom Girls, Tomboy, The Van, and Weekend Pass. There is a lot of great classic 1980’s cheese in this set that you’d be hard pressed to find elsewhere. They certainly don’t make great teen comedies like this anymore. Pick up a copy or two from Mill Creek Entertainment and watch it while you drink a few kamakazis wearing your parachute pants.
